Ron DeSantis (R)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/respect\/equality\/3261964-the-five-states-with-the-most-book-bans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed legislation&nbsp;<\/a>last year requiring school libraries in the Sunshine State to seek community input on the materials they make available to students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing a list obtained by the Florida Freedom to Read Project,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pen.org\/more-than-300-titles-banned-in-collier-county-florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PEN America said&nbsp;<\/a>some of the other books banned by Collier County public schools include \u201cCatch-22\u201d by Joseph Heller, Daniel Keyes\u2019s \u201cFlowers for Algernon,\u201d 16 titles by Stephen King , seven by Anne Rice and \u201cAnna Karenina\u201d by Leo Tolstoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several bestselling and prominent authors have spoken out against book bans in Florida and across the country, including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/in-the-know\/3934343-judy-blume-tears-into-florida-desantis-teachers-are-under-fire-librarians-are-threatened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Judy Blume&nbsp;<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/in-the-know\/3899754-james-patterson-urges-fans-to-reach-out-to-desantis-on-florida-book-bans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Patterson&nbsp;<\/a>and poet&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/in-the-know\/4038260-amanda-gorman-denounces-book-bans-it-encroaches-on-our-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amanda Gorman&nbsp;<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Martin is mocking the banning of one of his books in a Florida county public school system, saying it\u2019ll help boost sales. \u201cSo proud to have my book \u2018Shopgirl\u2019&hellip;
