A California company has initiated a recall on a BBQ sauce sold in Publix supermarkets because it may contain fish that is not declared on the label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA<\/a>) announced Ventura Foods’ voluntary recall of Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ sauce on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recall only affects products with the use-by date April 8, 2024. The products were sold at Publix stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ventura Foods announced the recall after finding the products may contain anchovy that is not listed on the label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish (anchovy) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the FDA said in a news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been no reported cases of illness so far, the agency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Publix has removed the affected product from its shelves, but any consumers with a product affected by the recall are advised to discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food recalls are issued if there are concerns that a product may be harmful to consumers in some way, such as if mislabeled products fail to disclose allergens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in January, a company based in North Carolina recalled several types of hot sauces<\/a> because the products contained undeclared wheat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also this month, Fratelli Beretta USA recalled more than 11,000 pounds of a ready-to-eat charcuterie trays that were sold at Sam’s Club stores across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company’s Busseto Foods charcuterie sampler trays were linked to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened people in 14 states<\/a>, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
