Netflix subscribers in Florida will soon have to fork over more cash to stream their favorite movies and shows.<\/p>\n\n\n

With the recent crackdown on password-sharing and looming news of potential price hikes<\/a> coming this year, users may see the additional tax as bad timing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning February 15, Florida\u2019s Communications Services Tax will be applied to Netflix users\u2019 monthly bills. The tax is set by the state at 5.07% and is required in \u201csales of communications services.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Florida Department of Revenue<\/a>, those services include cable and satellite television, video services like Netflix, and mobile and telephone communications. The tax took effect in 2021 and is already collected from subscribers of Disney+ and Hulu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed Monday that Florida customers will soon see the state tax on their monthly bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve notified our members in Florida that they will start to see state services tax applied to their monthly bill beginning February 15. Netflix subscriptions in Florida are subject to both local and state tax as part of the Florida Communications Services Tax.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
