A Florida Proud Boy, who is also an adult film actor, was sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol building, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Steven Miles, 40, of Zephyrhills, pleaded guilty on Oct. 19 to a felony charge of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain law enforcement officers during the storming of the Capitol during the joint session of Congress to count the Electoral College ballots in the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to time in prison, Miles was also sentenced to a year of supervised release and was ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He traveled from his home in the Tampa area to Washington, D.C. to contest the results of the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miles and other members of the Proud Boys left the rally site before the speeches started, walked to the west front of the Capitol and played a leading role in escalating the riot, the DOJ said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the group of Proud Boys including Miles marched to the Capitol, they chanted \u201cUSA!,\u201d \u201cWhere\u2019s Antifa\u201d, and \u201cWhose Capitol? Our Capitol!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wearing a desert-camouflage jacket and jungle camo pants, Miles breached the Capitol\u2019s restricted perimeter and confronted U.S. Capitol police officers in riot gear who had formed a defensive line to protect the building, the DOJ said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The confrontation between the mob and the police escalated to a physical fight, during which Miles shoved and attempted to punch an officer in an effort to break through the line. He made additional physical contact with law enforcement officers trying to stop their efforts to hold back the rioters, the agency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, the mob breached the police line at another point and Miles rushed forward to take advantage, ascending an exterior staircase to the building\u2019s upper west terrace around 2:10 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few minutes later, he used a wooden plank to help smash a window of the Senate wing door, opening up another breach point for the rioters to invade the building. Miles entered the Capitol through the broken window, and a cascade of other rioters followed, according to the DOJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After entering the Capitol building, Miles turned toward the Senate, where he ran into another group of police officers who directed him out of the building three minutes after he had broken into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
