The Daytona 500 has been delayed due to inclement weather, NASCAR announced<\/a> Sunday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cThe Great American Race\u201d will now take place on Monday at 4 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forecasts show<\/a> Daytona, as well as much of Florida, is expected to see rain through the day. The outlook was so poor last week, NASCAR moved the ARCA race scheduled for Saturday to Friday after the Truck Series race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final practice session ahead of the Daytona 500 was canceled Saturday morning because of rain at the track. NASCAR also moved Saturday\u2019s scheduled Xfinity Series race to 11 a.m. Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NASCAR was expected to wait out the weather as much as possible on Sunday. Forecasts<\/a> from the National Weather Service show a much lower chance of rain for Daytona on Monday, though temperatures<\/a> will likely remain on the cooler side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In making the early call Sunday, NASCAR prevented fans from sitting in the rain awaiting a decision on whether the race would proceed. It continued a willingness NASCAR first exhibited earlier this month when it moved the exhibition Clash at the Coliseum up one full day on little notice because of poor weather headed toward Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to NASCAR\u2019s post to X<\/a>, the Daytona 500 will still air on Fox Sports and stream on the Motor Racing Network radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Xfinity Series race is also now scheduled to be held Monday morning, hours ahead of the Daytona 500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time the Daytona 500 was postponed a full day was in 2012. NASCAR completed 20 laps in 2020 before rain halted activity, and the race resumed the next day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
