A four-door sedan crashed into a semi-truck early Tuesday morning, causing the truck\u2019s fuel tank to leak fuel onto the road, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haines City Fire Department officials and other Polk County emergency services arrived around 5:50 a.m. at Polk City Road and Lake Ellen Drive<\/a> to find the semi-truck pulled over on the side of the road. Fuel was leaking from the truck, according to a news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials worked to quickly contain the spillage by digging a trench and spreading sand to prevent the fuel from spreading further onto the road and endangering nearby wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truck\u2019s fuel tank stored about 100 gallons of fuel, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional Polk County emergency services soon arrived and plugged the hole in the fuel tank. They then deployed hazmat socks to absorb the fuel while the Polk County Sheriff’s Office controlled traffic flow in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spill was cleaned up around 7:45 a.m. A specialized cleanup crew is on the way to address any residual effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
