A supplier is recalling popular nuts sold in Walmart stores across 30 states. This is due to potential undeclared coconut and milk ingredients, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John B. Sanfilippo and Son, known as the “nut industry leader”, is recalling batches of 8.25-ounce Great Value Honey Roasted Cashews.<\/p>\n\n\n

This comes after a customer reported finding coconut-flavored cashews in a container labeled as honey roasted, says the FDA alert issued on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After looking into it, the company found that a “limited number” of plastic cans had been wrongly labelled, leading to the recall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While coconut allergies are quite rare, they can cause severe reactions including anaphylaxis, which can be fatal. Symptoms can include an itchy throat, rash, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, reports the Express US <\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milk allergies, more common in children, can also result in hives, upset stomach, vomiting, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The FDA has warned that people with allergies or sensitivities to coconut or milk “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product”. However, so far, no adverse reactions have been reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plastic cans that are being recalled have a best-before date of July 8, 2025, and the Universal Product Code 078742133348. They were sent to Walmart stores in different states and sold online, reaching places like Alabama, Arkansas, California, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People who bought the affected product are being asked to either throw it away or take it back to Walmart for a refund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This recall comes after recent problems with products containing coconut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In late December, over a thousand caramel chocolate bars had to be taken off the shelves at Aldi stores in Florida because some had coconut in them that wasn’t listed on the label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, a supermarket brand that’s sold all over the country had to recall egg custard pies because they might have been put in coconut pie packaging by mistake, while packs of gluten-free honey oat granola were recalled in November because of worries about coconut being in them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
