A Lakeland man was killed early Monday morning after he ran a red light and slammed into the side of a semi-truck in Polk County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office said<\/a> detectives were dispatched at 2:32 a.m. for a crash on New Tampa Highway (US 92) at Clark Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities said Miguel Jacinto, 56, of Lakeland, the driver of the gray 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, was driving north on Clark Road at a \u201chigh rate of speed\u201d when he failed to stop at a red light and slammed into the passenger side of a semi-truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The front of Jacinto\u2019s car had become \u201cwedged under the trailer\u201d in front of the rear axles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PCSO said the 56-year-old was killed at the scene. The truck driver, a Tifton, Georgia man, was not injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. No charges are anticipated to be filed, according to PCSO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eastbound lane of New Tampa Highway was closed for about five hours during the initial stage of the investigation, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
