(@CTPOLICELIVE) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CTPOLICELIVE\/status\/1771918112075448667?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 24, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cIf someone is breaking into your house, you\u2019re more than welcome to shoot \u2018em in Santa Rosa County,\u201d Sheriff Johnson said in April 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe prefer that you do, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted that the department offers a gun safety class, suggesting that anyone who takes it will learn to \u201cshoot a lot better \u2014 and hopefully you\u2019ll save taxpayers\u2019 money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnson\u2019s comments at the time came after a local resident shot an alleged robber during a series of break-ins in Pace, Fla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two years before that, Judd issued a warning to home invaders after a curfew was set in the community of Lakeland due to looters during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you value your life, you probably shouldn\u2019t do that in Polk County, because the people of Polk County like guns, they have guns, I encourage them to own guns, and they\u2019re going to be in their homes tonight with their guns loaded,\u201d he warned at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cAnd if you try to break into their homes, to steal, to set fire, I\u2019m highly recommending they blow you back out of the house with their guns,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cSo leave the community alone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Florida sheriffs received some blowback for their bold advice, but it still resonated with Torontonians after Const. Marco Ricciardi suggested homeowners leave their keys by the front door for intruders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Granted, it was in the name of safety and staying alive, but the messaging didn\u2019t go over well with residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Toronto Police walked back Ricciardi\u2019s\u00a0\u201cwell-meaning\u201d comments, saying, \u201cThere are better ways to prevent auto theft-motivated home invasions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Florida sheriffs are on the same page as far as armed homeowners taking on intruders are concerned.
