Arrest\"><\/iframe><\/div>                        <\/div>\n\n                                            <\/div>\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    \n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The suspect, Walter Medina, 48, of Tampa, was the subject of a Hillsborough County Sheriff\u2019s Office warrant.&nbsp; Troopers joined the pursuit on the interstate with Medina fleeing at speeds approaching 100 MPH in a Chrysler minivan, passing traffic on the emergency shoulders of the interstate, from Lakeland to Orlando.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"654\" height=\"300\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/medina.png?resize=654%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/medina.png?w=654&amp;ssl=1 654w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/medina.png?resize=300%2C138&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polk County Deputies and their aviation unit assisted with the pursuit as well.&nbsp; The pursuit terminated at John Young Parkway after the suspect collided with a raised concrete median.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina refused to exit the minivan and FHP Troopers deployed a K-9 and successfully secured him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina was transported to an area hospital for injuries suffered during the event and will be charged by the Highway Patrol for Fleeing and Eluding and Reckless Driving.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional charges may be filed by other agencies who all worked together to apprehend a violent offender.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"539\" height=\"245\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-50a-1.png?resize=539%2C245&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43706\" style=\"width:803px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-50a-1.png?w=539&amp;ssl=1 539w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Screenshot-50a-1.png?resize=300%2C136&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A violent suspect is under arrest after inflicting months of captivity and abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, April 1, 2024, HCSO deputies were dispatched to a Mobil gas station in Seffner after a caller reported an injured female had just escaped from a van and needed help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victim, who had been panhandling in the area of Hillsborough Avenue and Habana Avenue since January 2024, met the suspect, Walter Medina, 48, during that time. Initially providing the victim with food and narcotics, Medina actions turned violent as he subjected her to months of relentless physical abuse and captivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina repeatedly assaulted the victim using a wooden baseball bat and a flathead screwdriver, inflicting severe injuries including, but not limited to, broken ribs, deep puncture wounds, and extensive bruising. Over the course of approximately 2.5 months, the victim endured unimaginable suffering at the hands of Medina as he forcibly transported her around the Tampa Bay area and threatened to kill her if she fled or sought help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The victim&#8217;s opportunity for escape arose when Medina briefly left her unattended at Walgreens. When deputies arrived they noted the victim sustained numerous injuries to her face and body and she was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I can\u2019t imagine the torture this victim endured for months, but I can imagine the relief she felt when our deputies arrived,\u201d&nbsp;said Sheriff Chad Chronister.&nbsp;\u201cI have to commend the bravery of the victim for escaping her captor and seeking help. Our thoughts are with her as she recovers from this traumatic ordeal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HCSO detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Medina for the following charges: Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Armed Kidnapping, Armed False Imprisonment, and Aggravated Battery with Great Bodily Harm, Tampering with a Witness, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina was arrested following a pursuit with the Polk County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, the Lakeland Police Department, and the Florida Highway Patrol on April 2, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This suspect&#8217;s reign of violent terror is now over,&#8221;&nbsp;said Sheriff Chad Chronister.&nbsp;\u201cI am endlessly grateful for our law enforcement partners who put their lives on the line in service and protection of our community while apprehending this suspect.
