{"id":43804,"date":"2024-04-05T17:55:53","date_gmt":"2024-04-05T21:55:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=43804"},"modified":"2024-04-05T17:55:58","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T21:55:58","slug":"southstate-bank-customers-are-being-notified-about-a-data-breach-earlier-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2024\/04\/05\/southstate-bank-customers-are-being-notified-about-a-data-breach-earlier-this-year\/","title":{"rendered":"SouthState Bank customers are being notified about a data breach earlier this year"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SouthState bank customers are learning that some of their account data was compromised nearly two months ago in a cybersecurity breach that has since been contained.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SouthState-Bank-data-security-breach-696x392-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43805\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SouthState-Bank-data-security-breach-696x392-1.png 696w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/SouthState-Bank-data-security-breach-696x392-1-300x169.png 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SouthState told investors and stock market regulators on March 29 that, based on its investigation, it decided to notify an undisclosed number of \u201cindividuals whose personal information may have been involved,\u201d according to a report in the&nbsp;Post and Courier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Customers in Northeast Georgia began receiving letters this week notifying them of the breach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the letter, on February 7, 2024, unauthorized access was gained to folders on its network containing customers\u2019 names, financial account numbers, and Social Security numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSouthState is actively taking steps to further enhance our existing security measures to help protect against an incident like this happening again,\u201d the letter reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The letter goes on to express \u201cregret\u201d for \u201cany inconvenience or concern\u201d this breach may have caused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bank says it is providing affected customers with a complimentary one-year membership to an online identity theft monitoring service to detect any unauthorized use of the information that was accessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SouthState is one of the biggest banks in South Carolina, with branches across the Southeast, including in Northeast Georgia<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SouthState bank customers are learning that some of their account data was compromised nearly two months ago in a cybersecurity breach that has since been contained.
