Southeastern University wrestling coach Travis Patrick announced\u00a0Douglas Peppers<\/a>\u00a0as the new assistant wrestling coach.

Peppers spent this past season as the program’s graduate assistant, helping the team go 11-4 in dual matches and finished fourth at the NAIA National Championship. For the second season in a row, the Fire sent a maximum of 12 wrestlers to the national championship. Half of that group reached the podium of their respective weight class and earned All-America honors.

“Douglas is an impact hire and will be a great addition to the Fire coaching staff,” said Patrick. “Having had the opportunity to coach Douglas in his senior year and have him coach alongside me this season, his passion for the sport and commitment to this program has become clear. He is extremely knowledgeable about the sport and embodies the values that our program stands for. I am excited to be a continued part of his professional and personal growth and believe that he will help us continue to take the Fire Wrestling program to new heights as we work together to develop champions on and off the mat.”

Peppers used his final season of eligibility at Southeastern, placing sixth in the 174-pound bracket in 2023 and finished the season with 17 wins. Prior to Southeastern, he was a national qualifier at Brewton-Parker College and was a two-time Georgia State champion at Social Circle High School.

“Thank you to Travis Patrick the entirety of Fire Athletics for entrusting me with this position,” said Peppers. “I believe I have a skill set within the sport that has prepared me to excel in this new position. After competing in a Fire singlet and being the graduate assistant this past year, I am pumped to take on more responsibility and serve as the assistant coach.
