{"id":45467,"date":"2024-05-14T17:48:08","date_gmt":"2024-05-14T21:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=45467"},"modified":"2024-05-14T17:48:22","modified_gmt":"2024-05-14T21:48:22","slug":"city-commissioners-approve-new-future-model-for-munn-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2024\/05\/14\/city-commissioners-approve-new-future-model-for-munn-park\/","title":{"rendered":"City Commissioners approve new future model for Munn Park"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Munn Park is getting a major makeover.\u00a0During the Tuesday, May 14 session of the City of Lakeland\u2019s 2024 strategic planning retreat, City Commissioners approved a new future model for Munn Park in downtown Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Future Model One<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" data-id=\"45469\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/download-1-2.webp?resize=1000%2C563&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45469\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" data-id=\"45468\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/download-3.webp?resize=1000%2C563&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45468\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new concept would be anchored by a sizable shaded pavilion on the north side of the park with a building for public restrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other key features could include a swan-themed interactive water feature, a dog park on the northwest side of the park, entry gardens, a family play area, space available for community programming, and a large community lawn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Future Model Two<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" data-id=\"45470\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/download-2-2.webp?resize=1000%2C563&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45470\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" data-id=\"45471\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/download-4.webp?resize=1000%2C563&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-45471\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than a pavilion, this concept would be anchored by a multistory building that would house public restrooms, as well as potential dining options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entry gardens and a dog park were also key features of this concept, as well as a shade structure that could double as an event stage and a smaller interactive water feature. The lawn in this concept would be around 15% smaller than in the first to accommodate the size of the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both concepts use the park\u2019s existing footprint and would condense the amount of parking available in the lot north of the park to primarily ADA and load\/unload only spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a discussion and question period, City Commissioners took an informal vote to move forward with the Future Model Two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A timeline is TBA, but an official design will be finalized next, along with estimated project costs.
