Two police officers were involved in a physical altercation with a reported 16-year-old. As one of the officers tries to fend off bystanders witnessing the police brutality, they both are shown grabbing the boy by his hair to forcefully yank him down toward the ground. That\u2019s when the first officer punched the boy in his face as he was being restrained by his hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>As the boy moved to defend himself from the brutality, the officer who was addressing the bystander turned to sucker-punch the boy in the face.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>After landing a couple of punches to the boy\u2019s face, the other officer moved back, grabbed his taser, and fired it into the teen\u2019s body. The teen fell to the ground and could be seen shaking in agony from the high-voltage electrical shock running through his body.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The officer who fired the taser then applied pressure with his knee to the teen\u2019s neck while trying to handcuff him.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s where the video abruptly ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It was not immediately clear what led to the police violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As of early Tuesday afternoon, Crump\u2019s post had been viewed more than 21 million times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">According to Crump, the footage was originally posted on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Other users on X, formerly Twitter, posted the footage and called out the Lakeland Police Department by name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u200b\u200b\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LakelandPD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@LakelandPD<\/a>&nbsp;finest punching &amp; pulling the hair of a 16-year-old boy !! This is where our tax money is going to weak men playing dress up! heavy on the WEAK embarrassing af,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Lexciigee94\/status\/1795453285081530831\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one X account said<\/a>&nbsp;while posting the video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cY\u2019all allowed 2 Grown ass Sworn Officers To Jump a Kid,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LottKeelo\/status\/1795457569588138250\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">another account wrote<\/a>&nbsp;in a post that shared the video footage. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LakelandPD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@LakelandPD<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PolkCoSheriff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">@PolkCoSheriff<\/a>&nbsp;dem folks going down about [that]. And i really hope 1 of y\u2019all ever put y\u2019all hands on me. I\u2019ll die 100 times about me. Y\u2019all a muthaf*ckin Disgrace to the Mankind Y\u2019all Lucky da People of Polk County Ain\u2019t My People. Just f*ck wit me on [that] type of time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are the police saying?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">According to police, Hudson ignored the verbal command and \u201cstuck his hand\u201d in the officer\u2019s face while saying, \u201cI don\u2019t have to talk to you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI decided at this time to take Hudson into custody for trespassing. I attempted to grab Hudson by his right arm, but he immediately tensed his body and attempted to pull away from my grasp. I informed Hudson he was under arrest and to stop resisting. I was able to maintain control of Hudson as I guided him toward a wall. Hudson began to flail his arms towards Officer Diaz and I, almost striking us in our facial area several times. Hudson struck me in my facial area one time with his closed fist,\u201d said the affidavit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Hudson was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital and, following treatment, to the Juvenile Assessment Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, the Lakeland Police Department confirmed that the video in question features two of its officers and that the police chief has requested an internal review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cChief of Police, Sam Taylor has been informed of the incident, and has already requested an administrative review by our Office of Professional Standards,\u201d said Lakeland Police Department Public Information Officer Stephanie Kerr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Kerr said the Lakeland Police Department would not have any further public comment on the incident until the review is closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Kerr\u2019s email included an arrest affidavit from the incident that confirms the boy is 16 years old. The incident took place on Sunday around 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The arrest affidavit shows that the teen was charged with one count of trespassing and failing to leave the property as ordered by the owner, a misdemeanor, and two felonies: One count of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of resisting arrest with violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Police claim the officers were dispatched to an apartment complex because \u201cseveral people were in the pool that did not reside\u201d there, the affidavit said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The teen being beaten in the video was identified in the affidavit as being among that group of people in the pool and refused to produce identification when asked by Officer Christopher McKee, the affidavit claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The teen got out of the pool but did not leave the premises, prompting the officer to warn of his arrest for trespassing, the affidavit says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The teen \u201ccontinued to ignore my verbal commands and stuck his hand in my face, while stating \u2018I don\u2019t have to talk to you\u2019,\u201d the affidavit says, prompting McKee to begin trying to take the teen into custody on a charge of trespassing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI attempted to grab [the teen] by his right arm, but he immediately tensed his body and attempted to pull away from my grasp,\u201d McKee said in the affidavit. \u201cI informed [the teen] he was under arrest and to stop resisting. I was able to maintain control of [the teen] as I guided him toward a wall. [The teen] began to flail his arms towards Officer Diaz #329 and I, almost striking us in our facial area several times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Conveniently, nowhere in the affidavit is any mention of the police brutality shown in the viral video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s disgusting how he was treated,\u201d Ja\u2019Tae Lewis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Lewis\u2019 16-year-old son, Jahmal Hudson, is the person in the video being punched and tased by Lakeland police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Witnesses to the altercation can be heard yelling to the officers letting them know Hudson is a minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The video does not show what led up to the altercation. But Hudson says he was attending a pool party that was broken up when a neighbor called the police. He says he went back to the pool to retrieve his shirt when a verbal confrontation with officers escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey were told to leave, and they were leaving. When that comment was said that\u2019s when all hell broke loose,\u201d Lewis explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">That comment, according to Jahmal, had to do with his weight. He says one of the officers told him he needed to be next door at the gym instead of the pool. He admits he was angered and put his hand in the officer\u2019s face telling him he didn\u2019t want to hear anything more from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In the video, Hudson is punched multiple times, with one officer gripping him by the hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Hudson is then then tased before falling to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cNobody, none of those kids touched those police officers before then. It was just a verbal argument. Between a grown man and a 16-year-old boy,\u201d Lewis said. \u201cI have seven police officers\u2019 names and badges. Everyone that I talked to, no one want to speak to me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The police affidavit states as they tried to control Hudson, he flailed at them, landing a punch to the arresting officer&#8217;s face. But Lewis says it\u2019s her son who was battered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHis whole jaw was swollen. His ear was swollen. His lip was busted. He has a patch of hair missing from his head from one of the police officers pulling his hair,\u201d Ja\u2019Tae Lewis said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Lewis says her son was taken to the hospital and released, but that she brought him back for further tests after seeing the video for herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy son is pinned in a corner. No other place to go but forward to defend himself,\u201d she said. \u201cI threw up. I was sick to my stomach. I was sick.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This latest allegation of police brutality comes just three days after local community activists demanded Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor reopen the investigation into officers involved in the highly publicized videotaped confrontation with&nbsp;Antwan Glover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Polk State Attorney recently announced charges against Glover had been dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cAlthough we have several cases that we have been dealing with in Lakeland, I think that this is the most disturbing,\u201d Pastor Clayton Cowart with the Poor Minority Justice Association said. \u201cBeating him, with a taser, hitting him, knocking him down. That\u2019s excessive. This, the entire community is saying, &#8216;Wait a minute &#8211; this is a 16-year-old. This is a child.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Hudson was in juvenile court Tuesday facing charges of trespassing, battery on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. He was appointed a public defender and told to stay home until his next court hearing on June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Lakeland Gazette<\/em> has also requested a copy of any police body-cam images from the incident. In the video, officers are clearly wearing the cameras, but it&#8217;s not clear whether they were activated at the time of the confrontation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Lakeland Police Department\u2019s past allegations of brutality<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This wouldn\u2019t be the first time that the Lakeland Police Department has been alleged to have committed police brutality against a Black male.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Early last year, yet another viral video claimed to show Lakeland officers savagely beating a Black man who allegedly had had his hands up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In what could be a bit of foreshadowing from the latest incident, the Lakeland cops in the video that surfaced late last year were&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bdpsbkijQLU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cleared of any wrongdoing<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this month, the Black man at the center of that video had all criminal charges against him dropped stemming from his violent arrest in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<center><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">TW: Police Violence Lakeland PD, Lakeland FL, this you? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yBWKS1FwDA\">pic.twitter.com\/yBWKS1FwDA<\/a><\/p>&mdash; TizzyEnt (@TizzyEnt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TizzyEnt\/status\/1615843884415827968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 18, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In that instance, Antwan Glover was punched and tased \u2014 sound familiar? \u2014 by four Lakeland officers following a traffic stop for allegedly not wearing a seatbelt.
