Unfortunately, Florida has not been immune to the job cuts<\/a> occurring in 2024. In May of 2024 alone, I’ve written about GCM Education Services<\/a>, Raven Transport Holding<\/a>, Wyndham Orlando Resort<\/a>, and Cutrale<\/a> laying off Florida workers. And now another company – Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation – is following suit with over 100 employees being laid off.<\/p>\n\n\n

About Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation: This company owns David’s Cookie’s, which started as a brick-and-mortar establishment – opening a store in the 1970s in Manhattan, New York. Eventually, it would expand to have 200<\/a> stores, until it went to a mail-order format in 1987.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 1990s, David’s expanded its menu<\/a> to include cheesecakes, brownies, and crumb cakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although David’s and Fairfield Gourmet are New Jersey companies, Fairfield Gourmet Food Corporation has a food manufacturing facility in central Florida. Employees who work at the company give it 4<\/a> out of 5 stars on Indeed. A common refrain is that it is a fun place to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Florida Shut Down And Lay Offs: According to a warn letter<\/a> pre-dated May 31, 2024, the company’s facility in Longwood, Florida is planning to shut down, likely beginning in July of 2024. Therefore, all 137<\/a> employees at the facility will eventually be laid off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are no bumping rights<\/a>, but the company also has facilities<\/a> in New Jersey and Ohio, although the warn letter<\/a> made no mention of employee transfers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
