The\u00a0National Hurricane Center marked<\/a>\u00a0the first Florida-impacting tropical disturbance of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season Tuesday, set to traverse directly across the peninsula, primely serving as a large \u201crainmaker\u201d starting in the southwestern and central portions of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n

Hurricane season begins June 1, and Floridians still have a few days to access disaster preparedness items tax-free, through June 14. Another holiday takes place on Aug. 24, when the season\u2019s bulk of activity is set to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tropical disturbance, called 90L, has a very low 20% chance of forming in the next week, the center said.<\/p>\n\n\n

It is set to travel across Florida and into the Atlantic Ocean, moving northeast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flood advisories have been occurring in portions of southern Florida as of Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The center said the development chance is nearly 0%, at least until it reaches the Atlantic, where it will be moving away from Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bulk of hurricane season activity historically tends to ramp up beginning late August, peaking into September and October. The season ends Nov. 30.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
