{"id":47402,"date":"2024-07-05T18:00:11","date_gmt":"2024-07-05T22:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=47402"},"modified":"2024-07-05T18:00:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T22:00:18","slug":"polk-deputy-arrested-for-past-occurred-domestic-violence-incidents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2024\/07\/05\/polk-deputy-arrested-for-past-occurred-domestic-violence-incidents\/","title":{"rendered":"Polk Deputy arrested for past-occurred domestic violence incidents"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives with the Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office initiated an investigation into a domestic violence battery case involving Deputy Sheriff Anthony Martinez and two women he had previously dated.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"341\" height=\"414\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Screenshot-57-4.png?resize=341%2C414&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Screenshot-57-4.png?w=341&amp;ssl=1 341w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Screenshot-57-4.png?resize=247%2C300&amp;ssl=1 247w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the victims contacted the Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office on July 3 and reported several incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the investigation developed, detectives determined there was another female victim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Incident Summary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>June 8, 2023: Victim reported that Martinez slammed a drawer on her hand during an altercation at their residence, causing a minor injury. (Victim 1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>August 29, 2023: Martinez allegedly pushed victim into a wall during an argument, making threatening remarks. (Victim 1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>November 2023: Victim reported that Martinez prevented her from leaving their apartment during an argument, physically restraining her for approximately 20 minutes. (Victim 2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>March 26, 2024: Martinez attempted to forcefully take control of the vehicle victim was driving, creating a dangerous situation on Interstate 4. (Victim 2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May 20, 2024: Martinez grabbed victim\u2019s backpack to prevent her from leaving for work. (Victim 2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>June 21, 2024: During a confrontation over Martinez\u2019s behavior, he brandished two firearms and made threats. (Victim 2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Martinez was interviewed and admitted to several of the allegations, including grabbing the victim\u2019s arm and leg to \u201cprotect her\u201d and possessing firearms during the June 21 incident. He denied other accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on the investigation, Martinez was arrested and transported to the Sheriff\u2019s Processing Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Martinez resigned upon arrival at the processing center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Martinez has been a deputy sheriff for less than a year. He was hired by the PCSO in February of 2023 and entered the training program to become a deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cReal men should protect women, not harm them. Mr. Martinez obviously has some anger management issues. We have arrested him and he has resigned. Had he not resigned, he would have been fired. He has lost his ability to be a law enforcement officer,\u201d said Sheriff Grady Judd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Martinez has been charged with six counts of DV Simple Battery, two counts of DV False Imprisonment, one count of Culpable Negligence, three counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and two counts of Improper Exhibition of a Firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A check of Martinez\u2019s record showed no prior convictions of battery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Detectives with the Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office initiated an investigation into a domestic violence battery case involving Deputy Sheriff Anthony Martinez and two women he had previously dated.
