<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nDid you know that there has been an increase in shark attacks here in Florida?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just last year, Smyrna Beach was designated by some experts as the \u201cshark bite capital of the world.\u201d In 2023, there were 16 confirmed bites in Florida, with 8 of them occurring in Volusia County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, we have seen a steady increase in bites. In just June, alone, there were more than 3 shark attacks on swimmers. One in Nassau County, specifically near the Amelia River and Fernandina Beach, three more bites reported on Beaches in Walton County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some scientists are attributing the warmer weather and ocean waters dure to the increase in bites from sharks. Some also attribute the ocean temperature rise to \u201cclimate change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the increase in heat this year, there is no doubt many will seek relief at our beaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission offers the following tips to avoid shark bites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Always stay in groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t wander too far from shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Avoid being in the water at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t enter the water if you are bleeding or menstruating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Be careful what you where, don\u2019t wear bright clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t splash too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t swim too far from shore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
