This week at the Rose Dynasty Center, news from a federal court of appeals in Georgia came as a shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just a bunch of ignorance and hate and fear-mongering that\u2019s happening and it\u2019s sad. It\u2019s heartbreaking,\u201d said Jason DeShazo, founder of The Rose Dynasty Center, which provides services to members of the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, a federal appeals court in Georgia sided 2-1 with the state of Florida on a law which bans gender-affirming care for minors, including puberty blockers and hormonal treatments, and requires transgender adults be treated by a doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese trans folks have no services or are not able to get services with us or other places,\u201d DeShazo said. \u201cThey\u2019re having to wait 3, 6 months or longer to even get an appointment to see someone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every Wednesday at Rose Dynasty Center, Pineapple Healthcare provides gender-affirming care to patients using nurse practitioners, not doctors.<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cNurse practitioners can provide care in everything else,\u201d said Andres Acosta Ardila with Pineapple Healthcare. \u201cThis is something that is targeting the Trans adults, and it\u2019s doing it so they don\u2019t have access to care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ardila said 64 patients of Pineapple Healthcare are impacted by this new law, including patients from the Rose Dynasty Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe state was right to do what we did,\u201d Gov. Ron DeSantis said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to protect people. It\u2019s going to avert a lot of harm that\u2019s being done in other parts of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis said in an unrelated news conference in Citrus County Tuesday the court ruling was a \u201cno brainer\u201d and referred to transgender health care treatments as \u201cjunk science.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe just need to be right with what\u2019s true and factual, and we cannot get carried away by ideological agendas,\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeSantis also repeatedly referred to the \u201cmutilation\u201d of children, though experts say it is rare for minors to receive gender-affirming surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also accused health care providers of being motivated by money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere\u2019s the secret on this,\u201d DeSantis said. \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people that make money on these surgeries. That\u2019s why it\u2019s going on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do not go out and search for people to be transgender,\u201d DeShazo said. \u201cThey come to us, and they come to us for services and they know the services are offered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DeShazo and Ardila both said they are working with their patients to find doctors who will provide gender-affirming care moving forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They hope the law will be appealed again. DeSantis is adamant the law is constitutional.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
