{"id":4943,"date":"2019-11-21T00:34:17","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T05:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=4943"},"modified":"2019-11-21T00:34:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T05:34:49","slug":"lakeland-man-survives-amtrak-vs-car-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2019\/11\/21\/lakeland-man-survives-amtrak-vs-car-crash\/","title":{"rendered":"Lakeland man survives Amtrak vs. car crash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Lakeland man who was trying to drive around a railroad\ncrossing barrier was hit with a citation after the train hit his car, according\nto Polk County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"920\" height=\"613\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/amtrak.jpg?resize=920%2C613&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4944\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/amtrak.jpg?w=920&amp;ssl=1 920w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/amtrak.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/amtrak.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 920px) 100vw, 920px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The incident occurred at the Reynolds Road crossing, between\nHighway 92 E and Main Street East, Tuesday at 6:43 p.m., when Kyle Douglas\nThurman tried to drive around the barrier with his 2019 Nissan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PCSO reports note Thurman, just a day before his 29th\nbirthday, was injured in the crash, but survived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A citizen who stopped to render aid, Angela Revell, told\ndeputies she didn\u2019t see the crash, but was a registered nurse, so offered to\nhelp Thurman until rescue workers arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polk Fire Rescue arrived and administered a tourniquet to\nThurman\u2019s left arm, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CSX and Amtrak detectives arrived at the scene to\ninvestigate the crash.
