And dozens inaccessible in the city limits of Lakeland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The full picture of Hurricane Milton&#8217;s devastating impact on the&nbsp;City of Lakeland&nbsp;has started to emerge with hundreds of damaged and flooded buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/city-of-lakeland.png?resize=400%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36130\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/city-of-lakeland.png?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/city-of-lakeland.png?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to that assessment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>915 structures were damaged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>455 were considered affected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>218 had &#8220;minor damage,&#8221; for example siding or roof tiles blown off.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>158 buildings had major damage, for example where a large tree caused significant structural damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>27 buildings were destroyed, mostly flooded mobile homes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>57 structures remained inaccessible as of Friday, largely in flooded areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lakeland&#8217;s Tigertown, the spring training facility of the Detroit Tigers, is utilized as a staging area for support crews during hurricane season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bob Donahay, the city&#8217;s Parks, Recreation, and Culture director, said Tigertown&#8217;s stadium sustained some roof damage causing water leaks into the player-development building. One of the Tigertown hangars also had some roof damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lake Mirror Complex which is home to the Lakeland Community Theater, its parking lot and buildings flooded, causing water damage to some of the theater&#8217;s props and storage area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kelly Recreational Complex, at 404 Imperial Blvd., had its gym floor flood, causing the wood flooring to start to buckle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lakeland Linder International Airport saw widespread flooding from Hurricane Milton, Airport Director Kris Hallstrand said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lakeland Linder closed for about 12 hours as the worst of the hurricane passed. Many buildings and structures across the airport&#8217;s property were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There was a Boeing 757 jet that was parked alongside a hangar that Milton&#8217;s strong wind guests spun, causing it to crash nose-first into the shelter. Doors to several airplane hangars were pulled off, and found lying strewn in the grass<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hallstrand said Foster&#8217;s Aircraft Refinishing&#8217;s entire roof was lifted up by the winds and fell back into place. The roof will need a full replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More than 1,000 linear feet of fencing was damaged along the airport&#8217;s property and will need to be replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city-owned&nbsp;RP Funding Center&nbsp;doesn&#8217;t seem to have much luck when it comes to keeping its roof intact during a hurricane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cindy Collins, RP Funding Center&#8217;s director, said the building sustained a lot of damage to its roof. A full investigation is underway, Collins said drains on the side of the roof were dislodged as fabric rolled up in the wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The damage allowed water to infiltrate into the roof, causing damage to the ceiling in the concourse area and flooding the floor of the arena.
