The US Army Corp of Engineers has provided two industrial water pumps that are now pumping from&nbsp;the northwest corner of&nbsp;Lake Bonny. Crews have installed over 6,000 feet of industrial 12\u201d diameter piping to direct water from Lake Bonny to Lake Parker.&nbsp; SWFWMD and Polk County have agreed to allow Lake Bonny outflow to be discharged into the Peace River.&nbsp; Staff is manning the system 24\/7 to ensure it is operating and not causing unintended flooding in the vicinity of operations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"720\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1280 \/ 720;\" width=\"1280\" controls src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/IMG_5544.mov\"><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A portion of Main Street is closed so above-ground pipe can get flood waters from Lake Bonny to a stormwater culvert on North\u00a0Gary\u00a0Road.\u00a0\u00a0The stormwater system discharges to Lake Parker and flows to Lake Hancock before being discharged to the Peace River.\u00a0 The SWFWMD oversees and manages water bodies that flow to the Peace River.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The overland piping will impact pedestrian and\/or vehicular traffic in the area as the flood mitigation project continues.&nbsp; There are several road closures and detours are in place. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area if possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Road Closures:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>E. Main Street<\/strong>\u00a0(at Elgin Street): Closed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elgin Street<\/strong>: Entire road closed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>N. Fern Road<\/strong>\u00a0(from Elgin Street to Alicia Road): Closed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>N. Gary Road<\/strong>\u00a0(from Rose Street to E. Magnolia Street\/E. Gary Road): Closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Detours for Motorists:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visible detour signage is in place directing motorists around the closures.\u00a0 Please avoid the area if possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pedestrian Path Closure:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>recreational path from Lake Bonny Drive to the boat ramp<\/strong>\u00a0will be closed.
