A wallet was stolen from a vehicle overnight, and then a month later, two guns were stolen from a car in the same area, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second burglary was caught on video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Thursday afternoon, deputies responded to a person who matched the description of the person seen in the video trying to break into cars in the same area. A resident confronted the suspect, later identified as a 17-year-old, deputies said.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-dominant-color=\"746a63\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #746a63;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"455\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Ronetae-Degraffenreid-and-Anthony-Pettiford.webp?resize=600%2C455&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51536 not-transparent\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Ronetae-Degraffenreid-and-Anthony-Pettiford.webp?w=600&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Ronetae-Degraffenreid-and-Anthony-Pettiford.webp?resize=300%2C228&amp;ssl=1 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputies saw the teen walking between Porch Court and Hamlet Circle, who started running when deputies called out to him, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deputies caught up to the teen, who lives with his mother and stepfather on Porch Court. The sheriff\u2019s office said the family recently moved to the area from North Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The teen\u2019s parents were cooperative with the deputies \u2014 who were securing the home for a search warrant \u2014 until a woman walked up and said her car keys, office keys and work ID badge were missing, and had video showing the teen, deputies said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s when deputies said the stepfather, 37-year-old Anthony Pettiford, got in a fighting stance and approached a sergeant. Pettiford allegedly grabbed another deputy who was trying to intervene and threw him aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deputies had to use a taser after Pettiford after taking him to the ground because he kept trying to fight the deputies, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a search of the teen\u2019s room, deputies said they found:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The victim\u2019s keys reported missing while interviewing the subject<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A debit card stolen in mid-September<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Glock 23 illegally modified into an automatic machine gun, loaded with a round in the chamber<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Smith &amp; Wesson 38 special, loaded with a round in the cylinder, stolen in mid-October<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 9mm handgun, loaded with a round in the chamber, stolen from Hamlet Circle in mid-October<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Venlafaxine and Clonazepam pills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Three large containers of nitrous oxide<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ski mask, gloves, and backpack that were seen in videos, along with a window punch<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis family learned the hard way that we don\u2019t play around here in Polk County when it comes to keeping our residents safe,\u201d Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. \u201cI cannot even fathom why this juvenile had so many loaded and dangerous firearms in his room. And what a great example his stepdad is setting.
