Shawn Sherrouse, City Manager of Lakeland, Florida, recently received the Credentialed Manager designation from ICMA, the International City\/County Management Association. Mr. Sherrouse is one of over 1,300 local government management professionals currently credentialed through the ICMA Voluntary Credentialing Program.<\/p>\n\n\n

ICMA\u2019s mission is to advance professional local government through leadership, management, innovation, and ethics and by increasing the proficiency of appointed chief administrative officers, assistant administrators, and other employees who serve local governments and regional entities around the world. The organization\u2019s 13,000 members in 27 countries also include educators, students, and other local government employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To receive the prestigious ICMA credential, a member must have significant experience as a senior management executive in local government; have earned a degree, preferably in public administration or a related field; have completed a Management Assessment; and demonstrated a commitment to high standards of integrity and to lifelong learning and professional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Sherrouse is qualified by twenty-nine years of professional local government executive experience. Prior to his appointment in 2020 as City Manager of Lakeland, he served as Assistant City Manager and Community Development Director for Auburndale, Florida, and as a Manager for the Polk County, Florida, Property Appraiser\u2019s Office. He earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of South Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintaining this ICMA Credentialed Manager designation will require 40 hours of continuing education and a peer review each year, and a multi-rater \u201c360-degree\u201d assessment within five years of entering this credentialing program.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Sherrouse has served on the Florida City\/County Management Association (FCCMA) Board of Directors and is a previous recipient of the FCCMA B. Harold Farmer Scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
