<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nIn an arrest affidavit, the Lakeland Police Department said officers were contacted by the FBI on Tuesday, Dec. 10 regarding an alleged threat made over the phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Briana Boston, 42, had reportedly placed a call to BlueCross BlueShield regarding recent medical insurance claims she was denied. The entire phone call was recorded, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You people are next.\u201d The first three words are similar to those written on the ammunition that a gunman used in the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The affidavit noted the similarities between the incidents, stating that those words have become nationally recognized as a phrase \u201cdirected against insurance companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe\u2019s been in this world long enough that she certainly should know better that you can\u2019t make threats like that in the current environment that we live in and think that we\u2019re not going to follow up and put you in jail,\u201d said Lakeland Police Chief Sam Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police made contact with Boston at her home in Lakeland, where she reportedly admitted to using those words during the call, telling detectives that \u201chealthcare companies played games and deserved karma from the world because they are evil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boston reportedly told detectives she used the phrase \u201cbecause it\u2019s what is in the news right now,\u201d and that she had learned of the phrase due to the United Healthcare homicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Boston added that she does not own any firearms and \u201cwas not a danger to anyone,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe readily admitted that, \u2018Yeah that\u2019s exactly what I said but I didn\u2019t mean anything by it\u2019,\u201d Chief Taylor said. \u201cWell, you don\u2019t get to pull that back after you say it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on Boston\u2019s statements, investigators said they believed she meant to threaten the insurance company \u201cby using the United Healthcare CEO\u2019s homicide to her advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boston was charged with threats to conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy client is 42, a married mother of three. Never had any criminal charges or convictions. May you release her on her own recognizance,\u201d her attorney Jim Headley said to a judge during her first appearance in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the judge set her bond at $100,000, stating, \u201cI do find that the bond of $100,000 is appropriate considering the status of our country at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
