study by real estate data company ATTOM<\/a>, one in every 172 units saw foreclosure activity in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cA lot of times, the biggest problem is that the homeowner doesn\u2019t communicate with the bank and that\u2019s when things really start to spiral out of control,\u201d said Miller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think insurance premiums are one of the most significant components,\u201d said Gate Arty, principal and co-owner at Keller Williams Realty in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While he agrees on the impact of insurance premiums, Arty said he does not believe Lakeland has a foreclosure problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe market is in a state of flux. When interest rates rise, that\u2019s going to happen but in the grand scheme of things, foreclosure activity, distress sales just aren\u2019t a significant piece of our market right now,\u201d said Arty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arty pointed out foreclosure filings do not always result in a foreclosed upon home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s easy to say that the sky is falling and I just don\u2019t think that\u2019s necessarily the case,\u201d he said. \u201cMore houses, more people, more incidences of sales, foreclosures. It\u2019s more of everything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ATOMM study, Florida tied with New Jersey for the states with the highest amount of foreclosure activity \u2013 1 in every 267 housing units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, the study found total foreclosure filings nationwide, which are default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions, decreased 10% in 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
