\u201cI live here six months. This is my home, but I\u2019m leaving April 2nd,\u201d a Canadian woman named Susan told NBC affiliate WBBH. She wasn\u2019t comfortable giving her last name, fearing Canadians could become targets amid escalating tensions with U.S. leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Susan was just one of several Canadians who said they\u2019re selling their properties with no plans to return to Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want to be the 51st state, but we just want to be very good allies and wants things to go back to the way they were,\u201d Canadian Janet Rockefeller said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One family had plans to put down permanent roots in Florida, but have been eyeing other sunny locations like Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe truth of the matter is, if I hadn\u2019t prepaid everything and wasn\u2019t here and your weather wasn\u2019t so damn nice, I\u2019d go home now,\u201d Canadian Barry Presement told WBBH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Presement\u2019s wife, Ruth, wants to make clear that Canadian citizens still have plenty of love for Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe love the Americans,\u201d Ruth Presement said. \u201cNo issue, but its very disturbing to have the president that he doesn\u2019t need Canada for anything.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some Canadian homeowners are taking a wait-and-see approach, but some business owners said they\u2019re worried this could affect their bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
