Now her friends have gone to bat for Courtney Taylor Irby\nwith gofundme<\/a>\naccount raising over $13,000 to help with her Legal and Living expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irby was in fear for her life on June 15. Her husband had\ntried to run her off the road and had been arrested for it. He was facing a\ndomestic violence charge, Irby had a restraining order and he wasn\u2019t even\nallowed to use, possess or carry firearms. He was in jail but was soon to make\nbond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To protect herself, Irby drove to his apartment, got past\nthe locked front door and collected the guns she knew he had, according to\npolice records. Then the she turned the weapons over to police \u2013 and they\narrested her on theft charges and armed burglary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her husband, Joseph Irby, was released on bail that day but\nIrby ended up spending six days and five nights in jail for trying to protect\nherself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the community is rallying around her. More than 24\nsupporters were in the courtroom for her bail hearing on Thursday, including\nfamily, friends, her pastor and other church members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attorney John Morgan and Florida state Rep. Anna Eskamani\nare also sticking up for her. They are asking Polk County State Attorney\nBrian Haas not to pursue the charges brought against her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe was literally asking for help,\u201d Eskamani told The\nWashington Post. \u201cWe know with so many survivors of domestic violence that\nasking for help is the biggest challenge. We just demonstrated that if you ask\nfor help, you might be arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
