The Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) is excited to announce that it will be accepting applications to fill vacant firefighter positions starting January 15 through January 31, 2020. The firefighters to be hired will fill positions created by recent promotions and retirements. At a minimum, five firefighters will be hired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lakeland Fire Department offers competitive pay and benefits, extensive professional development, and is an established leader in public safety. As a result, it is a highly desirable fire department to work for; often receiving hundreds of applications in a short window of time when vacancies are made available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lakeland Fire Department was established as a career-department in 1916. The department has seven stations serving approximately 110,000+ people in the City of Lakeland. The department has 179 employees, of which 156 are emergency response personnel. In 2019, the department responded to approximately 25,500 service calls in its 84 square-mile response area, which includes the city limits as well as portions of unincorporated Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The department offers a wide range of services which include heavy rescue, technical rescue, fire prevention, fire code enforcement, fire investigation, aircraft rescue and firefighting, and in-house fleet maintenance; all in addition to fire suppression and emergency medical response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
