The Naked Magicians will magically appear in Lakeland on Friday, Jan. 17, bringing their R-rated brand of saucy magic, racy comedy, and titillating tricks to the RP Funding Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From London\u2019s West End to the bustle of New York City, to the Las Vegas lights, for the past seven years, this duo has been having been exposing their magic to naked eyes around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Naked Magicians are Brisbane, Australians Christopher Wayne, and Mike Tyler, who show good musicians don\u2019t need sleeves and great magicians don\u2019t need pants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking from Kansas City, Kansas, prior to The Naked\nMagicians\u2019 tour opening show Jan. 11 in New York City, Tyler said he and Wayne\nmet working as \u201cfull-time clothed magicians.\u201d He said in 2011 he was performing\nat an event Wayne was attending and Wayne asked him to do some sleight-of-hand\ntricks; at the time, Tyler didn\u2019t know Wayne was also a magician.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI actually stole his watch during that performance as part\nof the trick and we bonded over magic. A couple of years after that is when we\ndesigned the show together,\u201d he said. \u201cWe wanted to create something that was\ndifferent to what every other magician is doing anywhere around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That led the duo to create what Tyler called a \u201csleeves up\nand pants down\u201d show that was the world\u2019s \u201cnaughtiest and funniest\u201d magic show,\ndrawing inspiration from the 2012 movie \u201cMagic Mike\u201d \u2013 about a 19-year-old man\nwho begins a career as a male stripper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since premiering The Naked Magicians in 2013, Wayne and\nTyler have taken their now-you-see it, now-you-don\u2019t show to more than 250\ncities around the world \u2014 including those in Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA,\nCanada and China \u2014 and to over 50 million people via international television\nbroadcasts on NBC, ABC, Fox and iTV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tyler, who has been a full-time magician since 2008, said he\nand Wayne\u2019s show features \u201ccomedy-magicians\u201d and \u201ca perfect orgy of magic,\ncomedy and nudity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two magicians begin their show fully clothed. Over the\n\u201cR-rated\u201d performance\u2019s 90 minutes \u2014 slowly but surely and while building a\nrapport with the audience \u2014 their attire disappears until the men are literally\nperforming in their proverbial birthday suits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy the end of the night, we are fully naked. No one leaves\n\u2018hungry\u2019 after the show,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tyler said the Tampa Bay-Central Florida area holds a\nspecial significance for The Naked Magicians. He said in 2015, the touring company\nat that time invited the men from Australia to the United States to \u201ctest\u201d\ntheir act in three cities: Boston, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe got a standing ovation (in Tampa) and the touring\ncompany said, \u2018Let\u2019s do this, guys!\u2019 and we\u2019ve done over 150 cities now, just\nin America,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for what the eyes behold during a Naked Magicians\u2019 show \u2014\nwhich draws a mix of gay and straight audiences \u2014 Tyler said the show isn\u2019t\nfull of high-tech or \u201cexpensive\u201d illusions but relies more on creative, simple\nstage show. With a blow-up doll as their stage \u201cassistant\u201d featured in one of\nthe magicians\u2019 favorite tricks, a non-stop set of magic and illusions takes\nplace with some help from the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe like to tell the audience not to just come along to watch\na show, but to come along and be part of it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe want our audiences\nto forget their troubles outside in our non-stop party atmosphere. We like to\nget at least one audience member on stage, but we do like to let the audience\nknow \u2014 we\u2019re the only ones to get naked.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
