{"id":55799,"date":"2025-05-21T19:08:47","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T23:08:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=55799"},"modified":"2025-05-21T19:09:37","modified_gmt":"2025-05-21T23:09:37","slug":"homicide-investigation-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2025\/05\/21\/homicide-investigation-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Homicide Investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On May 20, 2025, at 6:08 p.m. Lakeland Police officers responded to the Fast Stop convenience store at 820 East Memorial Boulevard for a shooting which just occurred.\u00a0Officers arrived to find 37-year-old Joshua Graham unresponsive in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head.\u00a0He was pronounced deceased at that location.\u00a0A second person, an 18-year-old female, had also been shot in the leg and had been taken to Lakeland Regional Health for treatment in a personal vehicle prior to officer&#8217;s arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-dominant-color=\"856457\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #856457;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"340\" height=\"500\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/unnamed-2025-05-21T190305.029.webp?resize=340%2C500&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-55800 not-transparent\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/unnamed-2025-05-21T190305.029.webp?w=340&amp;ssl=1 340w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/unnamed-2025-05-21T190305.029.webp?resize=204%2C300&amp;ssl=1 204w\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Cornelius Gilmore Jr.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Detectives responded to investigate, and the preliminary information learned was that the female and known associate, 19-year-old Cornelius Gilmore Jr., arrived at the Fast Stop in separate vehicles.\u00a0They went inside the store to make a purchase, then came back out and got back in their respective vehicles.\u00a0As the woman was attempting to back out, Graham was pulling in and attempting to park in a space next to her.\u00a0It appeared Graham became upset because the female nearly backed into his path. He then called her a derogatory name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of leaving, the female pulled back into her spot and both she and Gilmore got out of their vehicles to confront Graham.&nbsp;Graham tried to enter the store but was blocked by Gilmore.&nbsp;The two argued further; then the altercation turned physical.&nbsp;The physical altercation continued as the two moved between cars in the parking lot.&nbsp;Gilmore pulled out a handgun and shot in Graham\u2019s direction but missed and struck the female in the leg.&nbsp;Graham had moved past Gilmore and Gilmore turned to fire one more time, striking Graham in the head.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It appears that Graham did not know the female or Gilmore prior to this event and the confrontation was precipitated from their initial contact with each other.&nbsp;Gilmore was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree and Carrying a Concealed Firearm.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The active investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Troy Smith at 863-834-8958 or&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:neal.robertson@lakelandgov.net\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">troy.smith@lakelandgov.net<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On May 20, 2025, at 6:08 p.m. Lakeland Police officers responded to the Fast Stop convenience store at 820 East Memorial Boulevard for a shooting which just occurred.\u00a0Officers arrived to&hellip;
