After realizing that Commissioner Bill Braswell<\/a> is mistaken about the Polk County Board of Commissioners\u2019 Commissioner Martha Santiago<\/a>Becky Troutman, Polk County Commissioner, District 1<\/a>Rick Wilson for Polk County Commission<\/a> Michael Scott<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They all do have the ability to enact ordinances, create animal advisory committees, fund education, and spay\/neuter initiatives\u2014not just for Lakeland\u2019s pigs \"\ud83d\udc16\"\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In light of this discovery, we the people would like to rephrase Commissioner Bill Braswell’s public statement from the BOCC meeting dated 06\/03\/2025, at minute 23 of the meeting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There seems to be a misunderstanding about what happens here in Polk County and who\u2019s in charge. You know, the sheriff is NOT in charge \"\u274c\". For whatever reason, YOU ACCURATELY think that because the Polk Animal Control budget comes through the BOCC, we don\u2019t have the ability to oversee it or even double it. WE WILL \"\ud83d\udcb0\". Nothing could be closer to the TRUTH. Stacy is sitting right down there \"\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udcbc\". We don\u2019t just consult with her about her budget\u2014we CONTROL it TOO, We don\u2019t just consult with the sheriff about his budget\u2014the BOCC has OVERSIGHT\"\u2705\". We are all independent, yes, but WE are elected to SERVE THE PEOPLE \"\ud83d\ude4b\u200d\u2642\ufe0f\"\"\ud83d\ude4b\u200d\u2640\ufe0f\", and while the sheriff runs animal control, HE HAS TO OBEY THE ORDINANCES WE ENACT \"\ud83d\udcdc\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is INDEED A question and answer time \"\ud83d\udde3\ufe0f\". We have 16 municipalities (actually it is 17)\u2014SPEAK UP AND BE HEARD\"\ud83d\udce2\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
