Just when you think the Sunshine State couldn\u2019t get any sunnier, it goes and rolls out a&nbsp;brand new execution menu. That\u2019s right \u2014 death row in Florida will now be served with a side of \u201cdealer\u2019s choice.\u201d Because nothing screams &#8220;21st-century progress&#8221; like debating whether to use electricity, poison, bullets, or party gas to shuffle someone off this mortal coil.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-dominant-color=\"f0f0f0\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" style=\"--dominant-color: #f0f0f0;\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/file-20250305-56-xad9v3.avif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56751 not-transparent\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/file-20250305-56-xad9v3.avif 600w, https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/file-20250305-56-xad9v3-300x200.avif 300w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, inmates got a little say in the matter \u2014 electrocution or lethal injection. You know, a classic Coke or Pepsi choice. But now, thanks to House Bill 903 \u2014 which also throws in&nbsp;a grab bag of prison-related goodies&nbsp;like location tracking and lawsuits with expiration dates \u2014 we\u2019ve upgraded to a full-on&nbsp;Death Penalty Sampler Platter. Bon app\u00e9tit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And why, you ask? Well, apparently it\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/deathpenaltyinfo.org\/federal-execution-drug-supplier-says-it-will-no-longer-produce-pentobarbital-for-executions\">getting a bit tricky&nbsp;<\/a>to get your hands on those pesky execution drugs. Pharmaceutical companies have this weird thing about not wanting their products used to, you know\u2026 kill people. Go figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, Florida lawmakers said, \u201cYou know what\u2019s not in short supply? Bullets.\u201d Enter the firing squad! Because if it was good enough for the Wild West and dystopian sci-fi movies, it\u2019s good enough for modern-day Florida! And if that doesn\u2019t work, we can always smother them in nitrogen gas \u2014 because nothing says &#8220;humane justice&#8221; like playing suffocation roulette with a science experiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Supporters say this keeps executions \u201cconstitutional.\u201d Right. Because when I think of constitutional rights, I think of a blindfold and last cigarette.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefloridachannel.org\/videos\/3-25-25-senate-committee-on-criminal-justice\/\">Senator Jonathan Martin<\/a>&nbsp;even said we need options to make sure we can follow through on the governor\u2019s orders. Because heaven forbid we&nbsp;not&nbsp;have enough execution methods at the ready when the chemicals run dry.
