Keep an eye out\u2014your neighborhood bank might be next!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most notable recent &#8220;big bank mergers&#8221; is&nbsp;<strong>Capital One&#8217;s acquisition of Discover Financial Services<\/strong>&nbsp;for $35.3 billion.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This deal was approved by regulators in April 2025 and finalized in May 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It creates the nation&#8217;s eighth-largest bank and the largest U.S. credit card issuer by balances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The merged entity holds approximately $637.8 billion in assets.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other significant merger activity<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>merger of California&#8217;s Mechanics Bank and Seattle-based Homestreet<\/strong>\u00a0in June 2025 for over $3.3 billion is the largest bank deal of the year as of June 25, 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pinnacle Financial Partners<\/strong>\u00a0(Nashville) and\u00a0<strong>Synovus Financial Corp.<\/strong>\u00a0(Columbus, Ga.) are combining in an $8.6 billion all-stock transaction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bank Australia and Qudos Bank<\/strong>\u00a0officially merged in July 2025, creating one of Australia&#8217;s largest customer-owned banks with 300,000 customers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>City First Bank<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Broadway Federal Bank<\/strong>\u00a0merged, creating the largest Black-owned bank in the U.S. with over $1 billion in combined assets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Provident Bank<\/strong>\u00a0now exceeds $24 billion in assets, placing it among the top 2% of U.S. banks by assets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Columbia Banking System<\/strong>\u00a0announced the acquisition of\u00a0<strong>Pacific Premier Bancorp<\/strong>\u00a0for $2 billion, which will create a $70 billion institution.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pinnacle Bank and Synovus are teaming up in an $8.6 billion deal, creating a banking giant with more branches across the South.
