It was signed into law by\nGov. Ron DeSantis and became effective July 1, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/r20.rs6.net\/tn.jsp?f=001Z3JV0I4oY1rs6YKQpFxM4EazLhTKUBtnLZC0yJTSlucSO9U32rpx1vgzYfuYAHgxcxU8VzI_maRFZoywQQgxU2kB5P6zIwhLBBEaFstDYrxu-l4L53Sd2E106ca4xLgj1v5NL6gHRxIcBFZfYessjwaLSD1uRA7ovdi5SZRde4F38nWYealh0LetAgjwxbRCxQhNsbR7OZQN_Japrjyp45X-m6nMNh5bHl9hHQG_e5AtAJRbOViRwvz4IX8H-s7PKMdziSIEhfU=&amp;c=tpJaSV8_QFZdFvABVX329i8ho305A3MZI1LEhjn1-FRIwCPBItFh1w==&amp;ch=ZJgAkkmlTkRYv4DMNCbwnCWHhU1ONXj-XyFJDI_48VSSkMUvq_NuLg==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent news report<\/a>&nbsp;about a Miami man who was\nthreatened with a $24,000 fine for trimming a dangerous tree on his property\nrevealed the need for a reminder.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople should be free to protect their families and homes\nfrom trees and landscaping that poses a risk to them,\u201d Oliva said. \u201cThe House\ntakes seriously its duty to protect the rights of Florida residents and\nproperty owners and prevent government interference with those rights.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday, Jan. 10, the Speaker\u2019s Office mailed 488 letters\nto local governments, directing them to immediately end ongoing enforcement of\nlocal regulations in conflict with the contents of CS\/HB 1159. An\nadditional&nbsp;72,070&nbsp;letters went out to Florida licensed professionals\nwho directly deal with municipal governments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs you serve your clients, you may have encountered local\ngovernment standing in your way or threatening sanctions or even levying fines\nfor simply doing what you know, in your training and experience, to be the\ncorrect thing to do,\u201d Oliva\u2019s letter to them begins. \u201cThose days are over.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CS\/HB 1159 was sponsored by Reps. Mike La Rosa, R-St. Cloud,\nand Anthony Sabatini, R-Howey in the Hills.
