Why, then, is Polk County still killing at such high rates instead of investing in prevention programs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What ordinances do you believe need to be enacted to control overpopulation responsibly?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What ordinances do you believe should be enacted to help reduce euthanasia?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheriff, if you claim Polk County Animal Control is being run properly, will you commit today to opening the shelter for an independent inspection by the University of Florida Shelter Medicine Program?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0Sheriff, you\u2019ve been named Sheriff of the Year and claim Polk County has one of the best sheriff\u2019s departments in the country. You\u2019ve been honored locally as Person of the Year and even received Humane Law Enforcement Awards. How do you reconcile those honors with the inhumane reality that Polk County Animal Control has been Florida\u2019s #1 kill shelter, year after year, for more than a decade?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Awards are supposed to celebrate transparency and leadership. How is it leadership to underfund Animal Control, block volunteers, and hide conditions from the taxpayers who fund it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It appears you care very deeply about your image and reputation.
