After two customers were allegedly “threatening” the safety of McDonald’s staff over the wait, the employee reportedly lost control of the gun during a struggle, police say<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities are calling a shooting at a Florida McDonald\u2019s involving an employee and customers a complete \u201cMcMess.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

A video release<\/a> from Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd on Friday, Oct. 17 claimed that the altercation began when 21-year-old Yoan Soto was working an overnight shift at a Davenport McDonald’s when two late-night customers became upset about their wait time in the drive-thru line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident happened around 3 a.m. on Oct. 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judd said the location can become \u201coverwhelmed\u201d with online orders at times, and the staff were \u201cdoing their best to keep up with these orders,\u201d when Peter Story, 19, and Nicholas Jones, 18, reportedly arrived at the restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soto apologized to the pair for being \u201cway behind,\u201d Judd said, even stating that McDonald\u2019s \u201cshould think through\u201d how their system works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite his apology, the two allegedly began \u201cthreatening\u201d Soto, telling the employee they would wait for his shift to end to physically harm him, according to the Polk County sheriff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey threatened to attack the man who just told them, \u2018We\u2019re busy, we can\u2019t take anymore orders,\u2019 and he did that because the manager told him to,\u201d Judd said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sheriff said Soto didn\u2019t back down, instead telling Story and Jones that his shift ended at 4 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video surveillance shared by PCSO and obtained by Fox 13<\/a> showed Jones and Story\u2019s altercation with Soto in the McDonald\u2019s lobby after the two entered the property, as well as Soto pointing a firearm at them after they \u201ccontinued to threaten\u201d him with what the sheriff describes as a “switch” and a “30-clip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow, the 22-year-old manager steps between them trying to stop this kerfuffle from occurring because there\u2019s a rattle afoot right now in McDonald\u2019s, we can call it a \u2018McRattle,\u2019 and that\u2019s not a sandwich,\u201d the sheriff said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the video, Judd claims that Soto was acting in self-defense. \u201cAnd as they try to grab his gun, [Soto] pulls the trigger, and he shoots Peter Story in the neck,\u201d Judd said, alongside video surveillance that allegedly showed the two men struggling over control of the firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cIt\u2019s a blessing that it was a very minor wound, but you know what? When you start shooting McGuns, you get people\u2019s McAttention,\u201d Judd said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sheriff said after Story and Jones allegedly fled the scene because of Story\u2019s injury, Soto became \u201cMcScared,\u201d picked up the shell casings and fled the scene as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soto was charged with tampering with evidence, which is a felony. Jones and Story were charged with trespass after warning and disorderly conduct. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The media has reached out to McDonald’s and Polk County Sheriff’s Office for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judd warned against mass shootings and violence, and also advised anyone in situations similar to Soto\u2019s not to \u201crun after a shooting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He has a right to stand his ground and protect himself, and these guys are threatening to do violence after they\u2019ve already threatened on the outside of the store and came inside,” Judd said in his statement. “They created a well-found fear in him and the store manager. It was just a McMess, but we\u2019ll sort it out because we are McGood at investigating McCrime.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
