The Polk County Board of County Commissioners has approved a new, three-year collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with I.A.E.P. Local 917 R-5.<\/p>\n\n\n

Commissioners unanimously approved the new contract on Tuesday, Dec. 16. The agreement covers bargaining units for single-certified emergency medical technicians (EMT) and paramedics. It will remain in effect through Sept. 30, 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polk County Fire Rescue EMTs and paramedics have secured an increase in pay and an improved shift schedule under the new CBA. As part of the three-year agreement, bargaining unit members will transition from a 56-hour work week to a 48-hour work week on or before Oct. 1, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The schedule change is supported by the addition of a \u201cKelly Day\u201d each 21-day cycle. This new schedule offers bargaining unit members a paid 24-hour shift off every three weeks with no impact on salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis contract reflects the county\u2019s continued commitment to supporting those who serve by promoting a healthy work-life balance while providing competitive pay and benefits,\u201d said Deputy County Manager Joe Halman. \u201cBy investing in our firefighters, paramedics, and emergency medical technicians,\u00a0Polk County strengthens its ability to deliver exceptional emergency services now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new collective bargaining agreement also includes several pay raises. As part of the agreement, members will advance one step annually under the existing 13-step pay plan. In addition, the CBA includes 2% cost-of-living adjustments for the 2025-2026 and 2027-2028 fiscal years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025-2028 collective bargaining agreement is the result of successful negotiations between Polk County Government administrators and the I.A.E.P. Polk County also recently approved a new CBA with I.A.F.F., Local 3531. This is the first year Polk County has approved three-year contracts with both the firefighters union and EMT and paramedic union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
