{"id":60488,"date":"2025-12-31T15:01:18","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T20:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/?p=60488"},"modified":"2025-12-31T15:01:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T20:01:22","slug":"school-zone-speed-camera-installations-nearing-completion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/2025\/12\/31\/school-zone-speed-camera-installations-nearing-completion\/","title":{"rendered":"School-Zone Speed Camera Installations Nearing Completion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of Lakeland is implementing a new automated traffic safety program, as part of the comprehensive Vision Zero Program, designed to curb reckless speeding in school zones, promote safer driving habits, and protect our community\u2019s most vulnerable residents \u2014 our students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" data-dominant-color=\"5b80ab\" data-has-transparency=\"false\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1110px) 100vw, 1110px\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download-2-5.webp?resize=225%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60489 not-transparent\" style=\"--dominant-color: #5b80ab; width:329px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download-2-5.webp?w=225&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lakelandgazette.info\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/download-2-5.webp?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The City of Lakeland and the Lakeland Police Department are in the process of activating&nbsp;<strong>14 speed enforcement cameras<\/strong>&nbsp;near&nbsp;<strong>eight school entrances<\/strong>.&nbsp;<strong>Drivers traveling&nbsp;more than 10 miles per hour over the posted school-zone speed limit&nbsp;<\/strong><strong><em>while the&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><strong><em>chool<\/em><\/strong><strong>-z<\/strong><strong><em>one flashing lights are active<\/em><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;will be found in violation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To ensure motorists are aware of the new program, a&nbsp;warning period<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>will run&nbsp;through the month of January<\/strong>. During this time, motorists exceeding the posted speed limit will receive warning notices only. The warning notices will be sent<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>by mail to the registered owner of any vehicle recorded traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the posted school-zone speed limit during enforcement hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>School Zone Camera Locations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lincoln Academy\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>10th Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Crystal Lake Elementary \/ Crystal Lake Middle School \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>N. Crystal Lake Drive and S. Crystal Lake Drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Southwest Middle School\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Lincoln Avenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>North Lakeland Elementary\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>W. Robson Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lakeland High School\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Hollingsworth Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lakeland Highlands Middle\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Lake Miriam Drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sleepy Hill Elementary\u00a0\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Sleepy Hill Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dixieland Elementary, Southwest Elementary, and Southwest Middle School \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Beacon Road<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Automated violations will only be enforced<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>while the school-zone flashing lights are active<\/strong>. The system will capture images of vehicles traveling above the posted speed limit, and each violation submitted will be reviewed for approval by the Lakeland Police Department before a warning is issued.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is anticipated that starting February 2, 2026, the program will begin issuing $100 citations to drivers found in violation. Additional updates will be posted as we work through this installation and activation phase.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cThe goal of these new pieces of technology is to keep our students safe by changing driver behavior in our school zones. No one should be speeding in school zones. Drivers should always slow down and be alert for students and other pedestrians.
