It requires:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">State license to operate<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Unannounced inspections<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Medical care for sick animals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Vet-care standards<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Staff training<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Clean air &amp; sanitation rules<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\u2714\">Real penalties and shutdowns<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a shelter violates these rules, the state can suspend or shut it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polk County would never survive under this system \u2014 and that\u2019s why we need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\ud83d\uded1\">Florida is still stuck in the past<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Florida treats animals like property, not living beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheriffs run shelters with no medical oversight, no inspections, and no public accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why animals suffer and die.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"\" alt=\"\ud83d\udcac\">We don\u2019t need excuses \u2014 we need standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Florida must adopt a Colorado-style PACFA system so shelters are regulated like hospitals, not warehouses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you care about animals in Polk County, this is the reform we must demand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Diana Bravo Most people don\u2019t realize this, but Florida has almost no real oversight of animal shelters.
