Thank you to the Ladies of the Lake Quilters Club of Lakeland for honoring Sergeant Skillman and K-9 Mako at their recent meeting. The group of quilters presented a beautiful K-9 Quilt of Honor and a $500 check donation for the LakelandPD K9 Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This quilt will help tell the story of K-9 Mako and Sergeant Skillman\u2019s service and sacrifice while serving the Lakeland community, often standing in harm\u2019s way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little history on the K-9 Quilt of Honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all started with Kobi, a K9 deputy who retired from the Indian River County (Florida) Sheriff\u2019s Office during the height of the pandemic when law enforcement faced major challenges in June 2020. Carolyn felt someone needed to tell Deputy Kobi (K9) and Sgt. Bryan (handler), some people still respected and valued their service. That\u2019s how the \u201cK9 Quilt of Honor” was born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
