The Polk County Board of County Commissioners and county leaders celebrated Polk County\u2019s 165th<\/sup> anniversary on Tuesday, Feb. 3 following the commission board meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n

Although the official anniversary date is on Sunday, Feb. 8, county leaders and guests commemorated the milestone with remarks highlighting Polk County\u2019s history, growth and commitment to serving residents and visitors throughout the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To celebrate the anniversary, signs highlighting key moments in Polk County\u2019s history will be displayed in the lobby of the Polk County Government Administration Building located at 330 W. Church St. in Bartow. The displays will remain in place for several months to allow residents and visitors to learn more about the county\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More information on Polk County\u2019s history can be found at the Polk County History Center and Genealogical Library located at 100 E. Main St. in Bartow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing able to celebrate the county\u2019s 165th<\/sup> anniversary marks a major milestone for Polk County. As a former educator, I encourage everyone to visit the Polk County History Center and Genealogical Library in Bartow,\u201d said Commission Chair Martha Santiago. \u201cThe Polk County History Center provides an excellent display of county history including Polk County\u2019s cultural heritage, the county\u2019s early and recent pioneers and a great display on Legacy in Government honorees, which highlights former government leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n
