<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\nCity commissioners voted unanimously on Feb. 16 to provide an Economic Development Infrastructure Incentive to Trimak Building Systems Inc., which plans to build a new corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility at 4350 County Line Road in Lakeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We chose Polk County as a strategic location and because of the welcome we received from the community with our desire to give back,” Trimak President Kenny McIntosh said at a Feb. 13 agenda study. “We do a lot of projects in Polk County and have for the last 30 years.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trimak purchased the 20-acre property in April 2024 for about $3.1 million. The company, which designs and manufactures pre-engineered metal buildings, hopes to build three buildings on the site totaling about 220,000 square feet, McIntosh said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We look forward to manufacturing our own buildings here in Polk County, providing things that no one else in the State of Florida can,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The city’s Economic Development Infrastructure Incentive program was created in 2019, and annual funding is set aside to provide financial assistance to attract manufacturing, research and development companies that will become valuable customers of Lakeland Electric and the city’s Water Utilities while providing employment. It requires a minimum capital investment of $10 million to be eligible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McIntosh said he estimates it will cost Trimak $7 million to build the three buildings on County Line Road. The equipment the company will bring into the facilities he estimates will be valued between $40 million and $45 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once its new Lakeland facilities are open, McIntosh said Trimak plans to create 50 new jobs that will pay an annual average wage of approximately $100,000. McIntosh said the company has created its own apprenticeship program that brings individuals in to train them in pre-engineered metal building and construction and provies them with certifications needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We’ve had a very good response with the workforce in Polk County,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jason Willey, the city’s business development and special projects manager, said the city’s grant funds will not be provided to Trimak until a certificate of occupancy is issued for their new buildings. The city also uses an auditing process to ensure at least 50 jobs will be created over time, Willey said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
