Three Years, Six Shelters, 72,970 Cats: The TNVR Impact. At the end of the three-year programs, overall cat euthanasia at all shelters decreased by a median rate of 83%, with kitten euthanasia decreasing by a median of 87%. Cat intake dropped by a median of 32% and kitten intake a median of 40%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the three-year Community Cat Program, 11,746 cats were trapped, sterilized, vaccinated and returned or adopted. Feline euthanasia at the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department (AAWD) declined by 84.1% and feline intake dropped by 37.6%; the live release rate (LRR) increased by 47.7% due primarily to these reductions in both intake and euthanasia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commissioner Braswell, as far as releasing cats, any cat with an eartip has had human contact. Since humans are involved, the colony has become a managed colony by humans, which is a game-changer. Food, medical care, and monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You\u2019ve allowed animals to breed out of control for 20 years in Polk County, so you have all these cats living out there. What are you going to do with them? You get to choose how these cats live and die, and you have to make the best life for these animals under the circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Will they be dragged off to Animal Control to experience a traumatic end of life in a terrifying environment with unfamiliar people and animals, dogs constantly barking? Then throw them in a landfill to decompose or sell them off to be cut apart in a lab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
OR Will you send them back to people who care about them to live the comfortable life that they\u2019ve always known but subject to the dangers of living outdoors?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Which is the better quality of life?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And will you reward or punish the people who trap them and drag them to Animal Control or kill cats on the street?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
