Alan S. Reynolds Artistic Managing Director Lakeland\nCommunity Theatre said the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We here at LCT were made aware of a video of a\u00a0Lakeland\u00a0City Commission meeting concerning a\u00a0proposed idea by the Lakeland Economic Development Council to develop the land around Lake Mirror including the site of the Lake Mirror Theater, Lakeland Community Theatre’s home. This meeting was over a month ago, but\u00a0I only recently was made aware of it and not by City or its leaders. I was\u00a0saddened that no one\u00a0on the Commission had contacted us to let us know\u00a0that we were being discussed in this redevelopment proposal “Idea”, even if it’s 2, 5, or 10 years down the road. LCT has a\u00a0Strategic Plan and\u00a0being made aware of this “Idea” would be important and affect\u00a0our plan into the future.\u00a0I also think it’s important that all stakeholders should be made aware when\u00a0any “proposed idea” discussing may result in their subsequent relocation.\u00a0The cost of building a\u00a0new theater of comparable type,\u00a0space, size and with the same amenities would be cost-prohibitive for the city. I don’t believe building a new space was ever an option in this “Idea”. As the presentation stated the city is trying to find revenue sources, not\u00a0expenditures. Our LCT family\u00a0after careful consideration thought we should make our community aware of this “floated” idea and express our\u00a0unequivocal opposition to it since this video is public record for all to see. Lakeland Community Theatre\u00a0in all of its previous incarnations\u00a0has been a valued part of\u00a0Lakeland’s cultural landscape for over 63 years.\u00a0The City of Lakeland, its Mayors\u00a0and its Commissioners have always been trusted advocates for LCT, and\u00a0I’m sure they\u00a0will continue to be champions for LCT and\u00a0the Arts.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
