Why the Rate is Changing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The fuel charge is a “pass-through” cost, meaning Lakeland Electric passes the market cost of natural gas directly to customers without any markup or profit.<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Reserve Stabilization:<\/strong> The utility intentionally kept rates higher during the milder spring months (April and May) when power usage is generally lower. This allowed them to rebuild fuel reserves that were depleted during the winter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Summer Relief:<\/strong> By rebuilding those reserves now, the commission is able to lower the rate just as the summer heat begins, which typically leads to higher overall electricity usage for air conditioning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
