They did! It’s a great piece of news for local schools. Suncoast Credit Union recently announced this $50,000 investment to support students, teachers, and classrooms across Polk County.

Here is how the funds are being broken down and used locally:

How the $50,000 is Being Distributed

  • Free Teacher Market ($25,000): Half of the donation is going directly to purchase school supplies. The Free Teacher Market allows Polk County educators to shop for necessary classroom resources at no cost to them, filling up an orange Suncoast Credit Union tote bag to help “Erase the Need.”

  • AmeriCorps Polk Reads ($5,000): This portion advances the mission of the kindergarten through third-grade reading tutoring program. The funding helps AmeriCorps members deliver three 30-minute, one-on-one tutoring sessions each week to over 400 young readers who need extra support.

  • Additional Programs: The remaining funds are utilized by the Polk Education Foundation to support other local initiatives, such as classroom grants, mentoring programs for at-risk high schoolers, and employee recognition.

The real impact: The value of this donation was actually doubled. The contributions to the Free Teacher Market and AmeriCorps Polk Reads were matched dollar-for-dollar through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.
