 Southeastern University announced today that all classes would move to remote learning for the rest of the spring semester. The university made the decision following the guidance of the governor\u2019s office, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is nothing we value more at Southeastern University than the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff,\u201d said Dr. Kent Ingle, president. \u201cWe realize that these are unprecedented times and this situation is ever-evolving. Although it was a difficult decision, as we realize the importance of the student experience on campus, we are doing everything we can to keep that momentum through connecting with students on our social media channels and other digital platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university initially transitioned to remote learning on Tuesday, March 17, with plans of returning on Monday, April 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur traditional students transitioned to remote learning earlier on so this will not be too much of a learning curve for them,\u201d said Dr. William Hackett, Jr., provost. \u201cStudents can expect the same academic rigor from their professors as they would in a face-to-face setting. Some of the classes are even offered at the same time as they would be on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to classes being moved remotely, the university has also decided to postpone spring commencement, originally scheduled for April 24, until a later date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the university is transitioning to remote learning for the remainder of the semester, the campus will remain open for students who are not able to return home. Meals will be provided for students who do have a meal plan. Student services will continue to operate under adjusted hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are encouraging our students to return home or stay in the place that they feel is the safest option for them at this time,\u201d said Dr. Bethany Thomas, vice president of student development. \u201cHowever, we realize that some do not have an alternative option. Due to this, our campus will remain open. We are making sure to follow CDC protocol in regard to social-distancing, gathering in groups and sanitizing the campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Employees of the university have been encouraged to temporarily work from home starting Monday, March 23. Although, some employees will work on the campus to serve students who chose to remain in the dorms and to provide other essential services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
