Dear Lakeland Electric Customer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 12th<\/sup>, the City of Lakeland Utility Committee approved a proposed base rate adjustment for Lakeland Electric customers. This base rate increase is necessary to continue operation with the high level of reliability you expect and deserve. An ordinance for the proposed rate adjustment will be presented to the City of Lakeland Commission for consideration and vote in July, and if adopted, will take effect October 1, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As your public power utility, we think it’s important that you have the full picture, about what’s changing, what isn’t, and what it means in real dollars. Here’s a breakdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The base rate is the part of your electric bill that pays for the poles, wires, equipment, and employees that keep your power on. It covers repairs, upgrades, and the trained workforce that serves you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This adjustment was developed through a formal cost of service study. It accurately reflects what it costs to provide the electric service on which our community depends. It is a thorough and responsible effort to meet customer needs while keeping costs as low as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lakeland Electric is a public power utility, owned by the City of Lakeland and run for our customers, not for profit. Every dollar you pay goes back into the electric system and our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
