A contracted nurse who worked at the South County Jail in Polk County was arrested on Thursday, June 25, 2026, following a traffic stop in Winter Haven.

The Arrest

The Winter Haven Police Department pulled over a vehicle driven by David Lindsay Pohl, 50, of Winter Haven, due to an illegally dark window tint and his failure to stop at two stop signs. During the interaction, officers observed Pohl attempting to wipe a white substance off his pants. They subsequently located a white, rock-like substance on the driver’s seat, which field-tested positive for cocaine.

Quick Facts

  • The Charges: Pohl faces one count of possession of cocaine (a third-degree felony) and received a traffic citation for the window tint.

  • The Employer: Pohl was employed by CFG Health Systems, the contracted medical provider responsible for inmate healthcare within the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) facilities.

  • The Booking: When Pohl was brought to the jail for processing, the booking staff recognized his employer information and immediately alerted PCSO supervisors and CFG Health.

    Statements

Sheriff Grady Judd noted the irony of the situation, stating that because Pohl was a contracted nurse, he was already familiar with the jail facility.

“Today, he’s seeing it from the other side of the bars. We expect everyone who works with our agency to obey the law. Clearly this suspect is no longer trusted to work within our detention facilities, especially having access to prescription medications.” — Sheriff Grady Judd

At this time, authorities have not confirmed whether Pohl ever possessed or brought illegal substances into the jail facility during his working hours.
